Restorative Dental Treatments

RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY IN SAN FRANCISCO

Restorative dentistry can rejuvenate mouths in need of repair. From single tooth restorations like crowns and fillings to full mouth reconstructive services, Dr. Mathai at Lands End Dental in San Francisco is an expert provider in rehabilitating your teeth and coming up with a care plan to maintain them thereafter.

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and Bridges

Teeth that have sustained much damage due to severe wear, fractures, or large cavities can benefit from restoration with a crown. Often referred to as "caps," these durable restorations are cemented over prepared teeth. Multiple crowns can also be linked together to form bridges to replace missing teeth. Crowns are also used in full mouth reconstruction of teeth after sustained damage.

Dental Fillings

Composite or tooth-colored fillings repair teeth with smaller cavities or trauma-related damage. They can also be used to cosmetically enhance your smile with veneers. Because of their natural color, a well-placed composite or tooth colored filling will be virtually undetectable to the naked eye, making them a modern and aesthetic development from silver, amalgam fillings. They are also significantly more conservative to place than amalgam fillings and mercury-free.

Onlays and Inlays

Onlays and Inlays

When teeth only require partial restoration, inlays and onlays come to the rescue. More durable than large dental fillings but more conservative than a crown, these are ideal services for teeth where there's still a lot of good left but not enough to support a traditional filling. The steps to fabricating these restorations is similar to that of a crown. Dr. Mathai will be able to determine if this is the right treatment for your tooth at your first visit.

    Faq's about restorative dental procedures

Please reach us at info@landsenddentalsf.com or 415-668-0680 if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Restorative dentistry is the term used for services that repair damaged teeth, "restoring" them to optimal health.  It includes placing dental fillings, crowns, onlays and bridges to treat cavities and more.

Teeth with minor injuries can be restored with regular dental fillings, which are designed to replace up to 1/3 of the chewing surface of a tooth.

Teeth with greater damage due to large tooth decay, preexisting dental work, or severe wear and fractures require sturdier crowns or onlays, however, to restore them to full function. This is particularly true for the back molar teeth that sustain much of our chewing power because they are harder and designed to replace larger areas of damaged teeth that softer dental filling material cannot.

Even if it is technically feasible to place an extra-large filling in a tooth instead of a crown, it will likely wear down, leak, or break in a shorter time than a crown would last. Dr. Mathai will be able to give you a damage and risk assessment on a tooth by tooth basis if you are considering crowns or onlays as part of your dental care.

Yes! At Lands End Dental, the only filling material type we use is dental composite, commonly known as the tooth-colored filling material. We do not place amalgam, or silver/mercury fillings in the office.
